New Year’s Eve is around the corner, some of you may have had this night planned for a while now and some may have no idea what you are going to do. Keep in mind family traditions don’t need to be elaborate to be memorable.
Here are some family fun ways to spend your New Year’s Eve.
Make a time capsule: Have everyone gather pictures, drawings, and memories to include in the capsule. Leave the capsule sealed until a designated date – maybe the following New Year’s Day. Include a family journal for everyone to record any important personal events of the previous year. Include resolutions if you like.
Family Slumber Party: Pull out some sleeping bags, pillows and blankets into the family room for a ‘camp-out.’ Read a favourite story or watch a favourite movie in front of the fireplace and make a toast with steaming mugs of hot cocoa to welcome the New Year.
Try a Different Kind of Meal: A Cheese Fondue is a fun, communal meal that everyone enjoys. You will need a fondue set, if you do not already have one you can find some starting at $30. You will need ingredients for the cheese fondue and items for dipping such as; a loaf of crusty bread, veggies, fruit, or cooked meats, whatever you would like to dip in cheese. There are lots of recipes to be found online but here is one you can tryhttps://www.dairygoodness.ca/recipes/kids-favourite-cheese-fondue
You could also try a dessert fondue which includes melted chocolate and pieces of fruit. Both types of fondue go great with champagne (ginger ale for the kids).
New Year’s Ball at Home: Turn your living room into a ballroom with a disco ball, Christmas lights and decorations and lots of dance music. Have everyone in the family dress up and dance your way into the New Year.

Midnight in Another Country: If you have little ones, they may not stay up too late so why not celebrate midnight in another country. Plan your celebration but ring in the New Year earlier in the evening.
New Year’s Resolutions: Want to make some family New Year’s resolutions? Here is a link to the top 10 family New Year’s resolutions https://tinyurl.com/ous66qe
New Year’s hats: New Year’s parties usually include funny hats, why not make your own New Year’s hats as a familyhttps://tinyurl.com/npfqpb9
Noisemakers: Noisemakers are used at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve so why not make your ownhttps://tinyurl.com/ok55r2j
It doesn’t matter what you do on New Year’s Eve, it will be memorable because you spent it together. Have a happy, healthy and safe New Year!
